WORKSHOP SERIES: Casting 1O1 with AbOminOg Intl.

    Artworks Trenton
    19 Everett Alley
    Trenton, NJ 0861

The veterans of fire heat things up with a 3-session class that will guide you from pattern to patina in the voyage to the land of sweet aluminium sculpture.

    • Total workshop series price: $185 per person includes materials and casting an original aluminum sculpture.
    • Contact Artworks to register: info@artworkstrenton.org or 609-934-9436.

Step 1: The PAttErn and MOld with Rory Mahon and Joanna Platt
    Saturday, August 31, 2013 - 10AM to 2PM
You want to make a sculpture, you need to have something to cast. Also known as a “pattern” this object is a replica of the object to be cast. In this class you will be guided through the process of either modeling a low-relief form or choosing the right item. You will then make an open-faced resin-bonded sand mold. You like to work in reverse, you say? Okay, then you will make a scratch mold and incise your design into a resin-bonded sand template.

Step 2: The pOUr with Bruce Lindsay, Aylin Green, and Scot Thompson
    Saturday, September 7, 2013 - 10AM to 2PM, (Rain Date: Sunday, Sept 8, 2013)
This is where things heat up. Observe and learn as the crew gets the metal molten and fills each sand mold with the most abundant metal in the earth’s crust - light and lovely aluminum.

Step 3: The FInIsh with Kate Graves and Steve Morse
    Saturday, September 14, 2013 - 10AM to 2 PM
Take that rough and ragged hunk of metal and make it sing! In this class you will learn chasing and finishing techniques and then apply a simple patina to seal the deal.

     The Iron Pour at GFS
GFS began with the Johnson Atelier and its foundry pouring molten metals to create sculpture. Led by artists from the AbOminOg International Arts Collective of Trenton, we’re keeping the tradition alive using red-hot iron. You’re not just invited to watch, you’re invited to make your own art. Let the fireworks begin! Vulcan’s furnace roars, crackles, flames, and sparks with power and excitement! Join us for an iron pour demonstration conducted by a team of master foundry sculptors as they heat 500 pounds of iron until it’s white hot, then pour it into molds made in the Scratch Mold Workshop.

    Rain Date: Sunday, November 3
